課程概述 |
The class is designed for advanced level of playing the tabla, the most prominent drum in North India. Besides learning the tabla, classes in this level will showcase the very intricate measured counting system of Hindustani music which is called tala. Students will also learn compositions from all six schools of tabla namely Delhi, Farukkabad, Ajrada, Lucknow, Punjab and Benares. The differing finger techniques of each tabla school along with their popular compositions will be taught. Also students will be taught compositions in Teentaal (16 beats) Rupak Taal (7 beats) Jhaptaal (10 beats). |

課程目標 |
This course will offer students advanced compositions in tabla which is the most prominent North Indian ( Hindustani ) drum.
During each session, compositions will be taught, such as :
Kaida ( fixed composition with an orderly progression )
Rela ( compositions with rapid flow of sounds )
Gat ( aesthetically woven compositions )
Those compositions will be highly technical and more difficult.
Selected viewing and reading materials will be provided to students for deepening their understanding of Indian music. |

課程要求 |
1. Students are required to practice consistently on a weekly basis to enhance their skills on tabla. (practice at least 90 minutes per week)
2. Attendance is very important and any absence must be proven with an authentic reason and proof.
3. Students must be comfortable to sit on a carpet to play the instrument as this is the most conducive way to learn the music.
4. Students are expected to read material on Indian classical music assigned by the professor which will be discussed during a pre-planned theory based hour. (90 minutes to 2 hours)
5. All the compositions taught must be memorized during practice hours offered by the department. Enrolled students will receive printed versions of complete compositions prior to each class.
